In a major tragedy, taking selfie proved fatal for 7 youths as they drowned in Ganga Barrage after one of them slipped into the river while other six drowned while trying to save the youth in Kanpur on Wednesday afternoon. Six bodies have been fished out while the search for the seventh one was still on. One youth somehow managed to save himself.
According to station officer Kohana, JP Sharma, sevean friends had gone to enjoy rains at Ganga Barrage. While they were enjoying, one of the youths slipped taking selfie and fell into the river. In a bid to save their friends, others also stepped into the river. However, one by one all drowned.
One of the passer by informed the police outpost about the incident.
On receiving the news, the police team along with administrative officials rushed to the spot and pressed divers into the operation. The divers managed to fished out six bodies. They were identified as Shivam, Sandeep, Golu, Sachin, Rohit, all resident of Vinovanagar, Juhi and Maqsood Ahmed also from Kanpur. Search is on to trace Satyam, also a resident of Juhi, the police said.
