Newly-appointed UP BJP chief Keshav Prasad Maurya arrived in Lucknow for the first time after being appointed to top post in the state amidst rapturous welcome and in presence of senior, disgruntled and sidelined BJP leaders.
BJP workers excitement was visible as the UP BJP chief, who after arriving in Lucknow by Shatabdi Express, and after garlanding statutes of great personality including Sangh ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhaya at Smritika, reached state BJP headquarters at 3 pm.
Earlier, Maurya garlanded the statue of Maharana Pratap at Hussainganj Crossing, followed by the statue of Awantika Bai, Mahatama Gandhi, Dr BR Ambedkar and Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel. Maurya and then proceeded towards state BJP headquarters, where he was again welcomed by senior party leaders including UP in charge Om Mathur, Union Ministers Mahesh Sharma, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti and Dr Ramshanker Katheria.
Initially, Maurya’s appointment was reported to have not gone down well with several party leaders especially Brahmin leaders who feel that Brahmin, who are about 14 to 15 per cent in the state are being ignored.
However, presence of state BJP’s who’s who including those who are believed to be not very happy with the present leadership and state of affairs, has only sent a positive signal among the party workers, who had been waiting for long to see a new BJP chief.
Those present on the dais included former BJP chiefs Vinay Katiyar, Om Prakash Singh, Surya Pratap Shahi, Dr Ramapati Ram Tripathi along with the outgoing state BJP chief Laxmikant Bajpai.
Appointment of Maurya otherwise is being seen as a bid by BJP leadership to woo around 52 per cent OBCs.
