The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has planned to start a mini version of Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament at an overseas venue in September. The Champions League T20 was scrapped from this year and BCCI decided to host IPL every September starting from this year.
Calling it the ‘mini-IPL’ or ‘IPL overseas’, BCCI president Anurag Thakur, after the board’s working committee meet, said the final dates and format would be announced in due course. Thakur added that, “not home and away matches but less number of matches in less than two-week window.” US is one of the options to host the mini-IPL. – Indianexpress reported.
According to BCCI sources, they didn’t want to delay the announcement because the window was very short and they did not want any other tournament to be slotted in.
Also BCCI working committee decided to start a new T20 league in place of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
