The four-pound female dog named ‘SweePee Rambo’ won the title of the ‘World’s Ugliest Dog’ 2016 in California at a fair on Friday. She is a Chihuahua-Chinese Crested mix species. Rambo is blind in both and her right eye is blue in colour. She has lived with her owner Jason Wurtz for the past 17 years in Encino, California.
For the past 28 years, dogs from around the globe compete for the title of the ‘World’s Ugliest Dog’. CEO of the contest fair said in a statement, “We’re proud to celebrate all dogs and pets by showing that no matter their imperfections, they are adoptable, lovable and a great add to any family.”
Wurtz told ABC News that SweePee was a gift to his ex-wife, but he took full ownership of her after they divorced because she though the canine was ugly. This isn’t the first time she competed in the competition. Wurtz further said she has been in it three times in the past, but this is her first time winning top honours.
Sweepee’s owner won $1,500 and a six-foot trophy that is as unattractive as the dog it honoured.
Other competitors in this year’s competition are Zsa-Zsa, a 7-year-old English bulldog rescued from a puppy mill, and Himisaboo, a dog whose hairstyle is drawing comparisons to presidential candidate Donald Trump which became internet famous.
In last year’s competition, Quasi Modo a short-spined dog from Loxahatchee, Florida, took home the title against a field of 26 other entrants.
