A police constable went on a shooting rampage from his .303 rifle in Bulandhshahr police line compound late Monday and killed one of his colleague and injured two others severely. After carrying out the incident, the constable, who officials say was mentally unstable, fired a shot at himself and killed himself.
According to the information provided by the police officials, Constable Saurabh Tyagi, who was appointed as a Quarter Guard Sentry at the Bulandshahr police line, went on a shooting spree with his official rifle inside the police line compound. The first two shots fired by Tyagi hit Munshi Manoj Yadav of Police Line’s RI. The policeman, who was a native of Etah village, died on the spot.
After killing Yadav, the crazy constable fired shots at HCP Chanderpal and one other policeman named Manveer. They both got seriously wounded and were rushed to a nearby hospital from where they were later referred to Noida for treatment, officials said.
Tyagi after his killing spree, went to the field in the police line compound, while threatening to kill anyone who tried to stop him. SSP Anees Ansari was informed about the shooting incident and reached the spot immediately. He tried to negotiate with the crazy constable through a loudspeaker for over 45 minutes and asked him to surrender.
Paying no heed to the SSP’s appeal, Tyagi pointed the rifle at himself and fired a shot which killed him instantly. According to SSP Ansari, the killer constable was previously transferred from the Bulandshahr police line due to his unruly behavior. However, Tyagi was three days ago appointed back to his position at the Bulandhshahr police line.
