Update: Etah spurious liquor not only took 17 lives, but also…

In a major tragedy in Etah district, 17 persons until now have died while a dozen others have fallen ill after they consumed spurious liquor late on Friday night prompting the state government to suspend the SDM, district prohibition and excise officer, circle officer and station house officer of the concerned police station on Saturday. The severely taken ill persons have been admitted to the hospital.
Spurious liquor not only claimed lives but also left many persons have also lost their eye sight after consuming the spurious liquor. The main accused behind the spurious liquor incident Shripal Lodh was later arrested by the police.
Later, the DGP Javeed Ahmad also ordered suspension of the outpost in charge and six constables for dereliction of duty.
According to Etah police, several persons consumed liquor at Luhari Darwaza locality of Aliganj area on Friday night. However, condition of all began deteriorating. In the meantime, 59-year-old Ramavtar, 39-year-old Atiq, 38-year-old Ramesh, 25-year-old Sarvesh and 35-year-old Netrapal died after consuming the spurious liquor.
Further aggravating the tragedy, Vijay, Naresh, Sarvesh, Kull and Arvind lost their eye sight. The police then rushed the other severely ill persons to nearby hospitals.
On Saturday morning, the news of five people dying after consuming spurious liquor spread like wildfire and people staged traffic jam at two places in the district. On hearing the news, administrative and police officials rushed to the spot and pacified the protesting locals.
Sending strong message on the incident, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav suspended SDM Sanjeev Kumar, District Prohibition Officer VK Sharma, CO Asaram Ahirwar and SHO Mukesh Kumar.
