A 5-year-old girl was drowned by his father near Shani Temple in Mahanagar police station area on Tuesday. The accused was identified as Braju Sahani, a native of Bihar, who was working as a mason in New Delhi. Passers-by spotted the man drowning the girl and rushed to the rescue of the girl.
The girl, who was rushed to trauma centre, however, died later. Enraged over Braju’s act, the locals beat him up before handing him over to the police.
According to SP (TG) Jayprakash, Braju, who is a resident of Muzaffarpur, had a love marriage with Shalu, a resident of Delhi and a native of Bihar. Both Braju and Shalu had two daughters with eldest being Shivani (5) and 18-month-old Muskan. On Sunday night,
On Sunday night, Braju had a tiff with his wife Shalu in Delhi. After the tiff, Braju in a fit of anger left the house with his eldest daughter. On Monday, he boarded the train from Old Delhi railway station for Bihar. However, on Tuesday morning he reached Charbagh and de-boarded the train. He then walked on foot until Sankalp Vatika on Nishatganj Gomti bridge with the girl.
According to eyewitnesses, he was seen slapping the girl, when the fruit-sellers opposed him. He soon left the place and took the girl to the river bank near Shani Temple and started giving the girl bath.
Suddenly he held both her legs and began swirling her. Nearby people watching this started making noise and ran to help her. Before people could reach there, he threw away the girl into the river. People fished the girl out and caught Braju and beat him up. On receiving the information,
Mahanagar police which reached the spot, rushed the girl and injured Braju to the hospital where he was discharged after first-aid. However, the girl died while undergoing treatment.
The police have informed Braju’s in-laws.
