After 46-years of marriage, a 72-year old woman, Daljinder Kaur gave birth to baby on April 19 going through two years of In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) treatment. Kaur delivered her son Armaan Singh on April 19, 46 years after first getting married to Mohinder Singh Gill and 20 years after menopause, Hindustan Times reported.
She had a treatment at the National Fertility Centre in Haryana, which is dedicated to offer fertility treatment for women decades into their menopause. Old couple come across here, decide to take chance at parenthood with IVF treatment. Kaur reportedly used donor eggs and gave birth via a caesarean section.
Kaur apparently is the world’s oldest mother, as the earlier record was held by 70-year-old Haryana woman Rajo Devi, who gave birth to a baby in 2008, The Times of India stated.
Kaur’s exact date of birth is obscured; but her age is being calculated on her statement that she is “around seven years younger than her husband”. In that case, 72-year-old Kaur would be the world’s oldest mother.
Currently, that position is held by Barcelona’s Maria del Carmen Bousada Lara, who gave birth to twin boys in 2006 at the age of 66.
According to Kaur, she is not too old for a child, and is blissful at the arrival of her first born: “Every one asked me to adopt a baby but I never wanted to. Now I have my own child,”.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Kaur said, “We will raise him and give him a proper education. I had faith in Almighty that I will have my own baby, and Waheguru answered my prayers.”
After two failed rounds of in-vitro fertilisation treatment, the hopeful Kaur became pregnant last July “using anonymous donor eggs”.
The Embryologist Dr Anurag Bishnoi, who runs National Fertility and Test Tube Baby Centre, was not sure about putting Kaur through IVF, but then went ahead after tests showed Kaur to be healthy to carry a child.
“I first tried to avoid the case because she looked very frail. Then we made her undergo all the tests and once all the results were okay we went ahead,” the doctor said.
