A MiG-27 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed in a residential area, five kilometres from the Jodhpur airbase in Rajasthan on Monday morning. Both the pilots ejected safely from the aircraft and no injuries have been reported.
News18 reported that pilots were on a routine training mission. They had reported a technical problem and sought priority landing. However, as the engine had failed, they had to eject, IAF sources said. SHO Basni Police Station Rajesh Yadav said that the plane crashed adjacent to a house in an open area in Mahaveer Nagar. According to ACP Jodhpur (West) Sima Hingonia a portion of a house where the plane crashed was damaged.
The area has been quarantined and police have reached the spot. A court of inquiry into the crash has been ordered.
