Four cases of dacoity and robbery in Lucknow seem to have become a nightmare for the police in
The crime rate in all the districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow and Faizabad range, was reviewed by Inspector General (IG) Zone A Satish Ganesh at a meeting on Wednesday. The meeting at the IG’s Office in the state capital was attended by DIGs Lucknow and Faizabad and SPs of all the districts.
The meeting found that the performance of Lucknow police in controlling the crime rate in the district was not satisfactory during the review period staring January 1 and ending August 15. The police in state capital were unable to control the soaring crime rate and make arrests of nearly 38 registered criminals booked under several murder cases.
According to IG Zone A Ganesh, the progress made by the police in solving the crimes cases registered between Jan 1 to Aug 15 were reviewed in the meeting on Wednesday at his office. He said that it was found that the cases of murders were on rise in districts of Amethi, Barabanki and Ambedkar Nagar and the work done by the local police was unsatisfactory. Meanwhile in Lucknow, Sitapur and Rae Bareilly districts of UP, cases of robbery were on the rise and the local police failed miserably in controlling it.
Similarly, the police in Unnao, Lucknow and Barabanki lagged behind in solving cases of loots. The meeting also found that Lucknow police was the worst performer in the state in terms of solving cases of murder, dacoity and loots, followed by the police in Barabanki and Unnnao districts.
Taking not of the situation, the IG ordered the SPs of all the above districts to take urgent steps to bring down the soaring crime rates in their areas and make strenuous efforts to solve all the pending cases at the earliest.
No arrests have been made till date in 38 cases of murder, loot, dacoity in Lucknow, whereas in Unnao, Kheeri and Faizabad dsitricts, 26, 15 and 14 arrests, respectively, were found to be pending. Other than this, the meeting also found that 19 arrests in Sultanpur and 9 arrests in Lucknow were pending in loot cases.
Lucknow and Ambedkar Nagar police were also found to be on the backfoot in making arrests in the cases of loots. The police in Lucknow and Unnao also failed despicably in handling the sexual harassment cases reported by women in their area and arresting the accused.
The IG also discussed the police’s preparations for the upcoming festival season. He ordered the local police to be on high alert during the festivals. IG Ganesh also instructed the police officials to prepare themselves for the upcoming Assembly elections in the state.
