India kick starts work to link Himanchal Ladakh via rail line

The ambitious project of Indian government to link Leh Ladakh with a railway line has been started. Rs 40 crore has already been allotted for the survey work. The total budget for the survey work is Rs 157 crore.

According to the reports published by India today the total cost of the 498 km railway line construction has been estimated at Rs 50,000 crore. As the railway line will link Himanchal Pradesh to Ladakh it is also expected that it will increase the tourism of the area. Rail Indian Technical and economic service (RITES) has been handed over the responsibility of the location survey work for Bilaspur-Mandi-Manali-Leh railway line.

Furthermore the government is planning on to connect Leh with Srinagar. This will connect Zoji La and Kargil via Kashmir Valley.

The proposed railway line would connect Bilaspur, Mandi, Kullu and Lahaul-Spigti districts of Himanchal Pradesh to Leh. Government has also made it sure that a check should always be there on China. This railway line will provide a boosting development to the region.

To keep a check on the survey work railway has set up a camp office by taking up some land from Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC).  LAHDC has made sure that land should not be a problem faced by Indian railways. For this Northern Railway General Manager AK Puthia visited Leh along with the team of senior officers. He also discussed the issue of railway connectivity with the local representative.
