Lucknow: Popular as ‘Lady Singham’, Lucknow’s first woman SSP Manzil Saini took over the charge and set her priorities straight and clear. Safety of women, blend of modern and basic policing and curb on crime would be her priority. Also her first posting ever in Lucknow as an officer, Manzil Saini said that she would take some time to understand the people of the city of nawabs.
A resident of New Delhi, Saini, a 2005 batch IPS officer, before becoming Lucknow SSP was district chiefs of 9 districts. Among the big cities, Saini had been SSP Allahabad earlier. Before joining as SSP Lucknow, she was posted as Etawah SSP.
Sharing her experience of successfully curbing the incidents of chain snatching in Etawah, Saini said that in Etawah she pressed plain clothes police woman into the operation and asked them to move on motorcycle wearing chains. She then ensured that these cops were covered by police force, who had the order to chase the snatcher and if need be, they should also open fire in the air.
She said if need be a similar operation would be launched in Lucknow also.
She also said that crime branch of Lucknow police would be strengthened in a bid to put a curb on crime in the city and said that efforts would be made to solve the unsolved pending cases.
Saini 7th SSP of Lucknow since Akhilesh government came to power
Ever since Samajwadi Party government came to power in 2012, Saini is the seventh SSP of Lucknow. IG Ashutosh Pandey was removed after he got promotion and was replaced by SSP RK Chaturvedi. Chaturvedi was followed by J Ravindra Gaur. He remained SSP for around one year before being transferred all of sudden. After Gaur, Praveen Singh joined as SSP Lucknow and remained on charge for 7 months. Singh was followed Yashashvi Yadav, who was said to be close to corridors of power. However, he could stay only for three months.
After Yadav, Rajesh Pandey was appointed as SSP Lucknow, who remained on the post until two days back for around 11 months before Manzil Saini replaced him.
