Boxing legend Muhammad Ali died at the age of 74 on Friday evening after he was hospitalised for respiratory ailments in Phoenix two days ago. Better known as the ‘The Greatest’, Ali owns a record of 56 wins, 37 by knockout, and five losses. Ali had suffered from Parkinson’s disease since 1984 which ravaged his body but could never dim his larger-than-life presence. One of the greatest fighters in the history of boxing, Ali retired in 1981 after losing to Trevor Berbick in his 61st career bout.
Ali’s funeral will take place in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, a family-member said in the statement, adding “the Ali family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, and support and asks for privacy at this time.”
As soon as the news of the boxer’s death started doing the rounds, renowned public figures and celebrities started paying their tributes to Ali through tweets.
