Three bike borne miscreants shot dead a member of a village panchayat member when he was sitting at his grocery shop in Banthra area on Monday morning.
Circle Officer Sarojini Nagar, Rajesh Yadav told media persons that 55-year-old village panchayat member, Ashok Kumar Maurya resides with his family in Banthra area. His family members include 2 sons Dheeraj and Pryanshu and 4 brothers Dinesh, Sarvan, Pawan and Pramod. He used to sit in a shop which is allotted to Pramod’s wife.
As a routine Maurya reached his shop in the morning. After sometime, 3 bike-borne miscreants stopped at his shop. Two of them asked for a cigarette from Maurya. As soon as Maurya turned to take the cigarette, one of them shot him on his head with a pistol. Maurya fell on the ground bleeding profusely.
Hearing the noise of gunshot, nearby people rushed to the spot. The miscreants by then fled the spot. On getting the information, SSP Manzil Saini, SP (East) Shivram Yadav, CO Sarojini Nagar along with Banthra police also reached the spot. Police sent Maurya’s body for the post-mortem. Maurya’s family has not accused anyone.
According to family members, after hearing the gunshot, Maurya’s brother Dinesh came out from his house and even chased the miscreants when he saw them running.
According to Dinesh, miscreants did not cover their face and they seem to have between 25 to 30 years of age. He saw them for the first time. Police are now trying to get their sketches ready.
