They couldn’t unite when alive, a 20-year-old youth and a 16-year-old girl ended their lives together by jumping into Bharwara lake in Chinhat police station area of Lucknow. Uniting the two was a shirt, which probably they had tied to their waist not to be separated at least in their death if it couldn’t become possible for the two when they were alive.
In a sensational incident, dead bodies of a girl and a youth were found floating on Bharwara lake, on Saturday. The police claimed that the two took the extreme step as the parents of the two didn’t agree to their marriage. The two were identified as 20-year-old Shamim, a resident of Barabanki district and the girl was identified as Afsana, a resident of a slum at Vijyant Khand in Gomtinagar.
Shamim was working as a tailor while Afsana used to visit him to learn tailoring work. It was here that the two developed liking for each other.
The bodies were tied together from their waist with a shirt and also bore some injuries mark on the faces initially hinting towards some foul play, the locals said. However, the police denied any foul play and claimed that the two took the extreme step as their relationship didn’t get the desired approval from their family members.
Circle Officer Gomti Nagar, Satyasen Yadav told media persons that bodies of 20-year old youth and a 16-year-old girl were found floating at Bharwara lake on Saturday. Police on information reached the spot and somehow managed to fish the body out of the lake. Till then, mob of people had gathered at the spot. Police began investigation and tried to ascertained their identity but in vain. Police sent their bodies to the mortuary. The boy was wearing a vest and a black trouser whereas girl wore kurti and a blue jeans. Police recovered some cash and papers also from their possession.
Later in the day, the couple’s identity was ascertained, the police said.
According to the police, both were in relationship, however, it didn’t get approval from their family members. Things turned for worse when Afsana’s family members fixed her marriage and even got her engagement ceremony done. Finding no other way out, the two then decided to end life. According to the family members of the two, Shamim was missing from home for the past three days, while Afsana had left the house on Friday saying she is going to learn stitching.
The police was further investigation the case and waiting for the post-mortem reports before reaching to any conclusion.
