The man, who had been giving death threats to BJP MP Kaushal Kishore over the phone, was arrested by the Lucknow police on Saturday. The accused had called Kishore, the BJP MP from Mohanlaganj, over the phone on Thursday and allegedly told him that the latter will be killed soon, while hurling abuses at him.
Kishore had on the day, registered an FIR at the Kakori police station and the caller was booked under Section 507 in the IPC. The mobile phone number was put on surveillance and on Saturday a police team traced down the caller and arrested a man named Sanjeev Maheshwari.
The caller is a resident of Jagdishpuram colony located in Bareilly district’s Premnagar area, officials said. On being interrogated by the police, Sanjeev said that he was asked to make the threatening call to Kishore by two men from the city Mall’s area, among whom one is a former aide of the BJP MP.
While giving away their names, he said that Mall residents Jaipal Pathik and Om Prakash Sahu asked him to make the call. Jaipal is Kishore’s former aide and currently they both have turned rivals due to disagreements over some issues. Police officials have assured that strict action will be taken against all the three accused under the ambit of law.
