Police bust IPL betting racket, arrest 3 and recover cash, mobiles in Lucknow

With IPL fever gripping the cricket enthusiasts, reports of betting racket flourishing has also started coming. On Thursday, Lucknow police busted one such betting racket and arrested three persons involved in the racket.

The operation was carried out by Vikasnagar police station jointly with surveillance team of Lucknow police. The police have recovered cash worth Rs 1.23 lakh, two laptops, 9 mobiles, one set-top box and one box-like mobile phone used for the purpose of betting besides other valuables.

The police have also recovered a diary with details of betting.

Senior Superintendent of Police Rajesh Pandey told media persons that complaints had been received about betting racket flourishing in the city after the start of IPL season 9.

On the directives of the SSP, Vikasnagar police along with surveillance team raided flat no-8 on the third floor of Faiz Mensh apartment located at sector-7, Vikasnagar. Police arrested 3 persons involved in the betting at the time of the raid. The arrested accused were identified as Amit Trivedi of Vikasnagar, who is also believed to the mastermind of the racket, Dipu Soni and Shikhar Gupta of Chowk. Amit told the police that he bought a box-mobile worth Rs 6,000 from Delhi specially for betting.
