It’s literally a prized catch for Lucknow police. On Saturday, Lucknow police caught hold of a robber involved in over 100 robberies and recovered around 25 mobile phones, a purse and cash worth thousands of rupees. He was identified as Rohit Srivastava, a resident of Sitapur district. Srivastava carried a reward of Rs 5,000 on his head.
Surveillance team was working on the increasing chain-snatching cases in trans-gomti area when it came to know about Rohit Srivastava. After tracking his location for days, Mahanagar police along with surveillance team nabbed him from Faizabad Road. The police recovered around 25 mobile phones, a snatched ladies purse and cash worth Rs 2950.
SSP Manzil Saini told media persons that Rohit along with his aides had committed around 80 cases of snatching in the last three months. A few months back, Mahanagar police had nabbed his associates Sandeep and Himanshu.
However, Rohit evaded police net.
During interrogation, he revealed about his aide Irfan also, the police said. The SSP said that arrested Rohit had committed crime at Wazirganj, Chowk, Vikasnagar, Madiaon, Vibhuti Khand and Ghazipur.
Fed up with his deeds, Rohit’s family members had thrown him out of the house for a long time. After this, Rohit began working as waiter in Lucknow and came in contact with Sandeep. He only told him that there was not much money in the job of waiter. Sandeep trained him into snatching chain and purse from women. Thereafter, Rohit became a professional robber. Rohit’s father is an assistant to an advocate.
