A police sub-inspector was killed when criminals opened fired after being challenged by the police team in Noida early on Monday morning. The sub-inspector was identified as Akhtar Khan, a resident of Aligarh district.
Khan was posted at Dadri police station. The incident took place when a police team had gone to nab three criminals after the S-I got a tip-off that the criminals Furkan, Javed and Tota were hiding at Nayi Abadi area of Dadri police station. The S-I accompanied by two constables reached the spot.
Probably the criminals had come to know that a police team was after them. No sooner than the police team reached the spot, the miscreants opened fire on the police party. The police party also retaliated the firing. However, the exchange of fire resulted in a bullet hitting the S-I on his stomach which resulted in the S-I falling on the ground bleeding profusely.
After the bullet hit the S-I, all the criminals fled the spot. On receiving the information, additional police force from Dadri police station rushed to the spot. Senior police officials also reached the spot and rushed the injured S-I to the hospital, where he succumbed to his bullet injuries.
A manhunt has been launched to nab the three criminals, the police said.
