Fire Department officials remained on toes on Tuesday with incidents of fire reported from three localities in Lucknow. In the morning, around 33 huts were gutted in fire that erupted at Ujariaon locality in Gomti Nagar area. In the afternoon, fire erupted from a room at Tourism Department owned Gomti Hotel opposite SSP bungalow on Sapru Marg. Soon after, a major fire broke out at a scrap dealers’ shop on Campwell Road in Thakurganj area.
Though no casualty has been reported, heavy loss of property and valuables has been reported in the three incidents of fire. Fire tenders brought the fire under control at all the three localities. At Ujariaon, the fire was so huge that smoke billowing from the slum was visible as far as over two kilometres.
Lucknow it seems has become prone to incident of fire this season of summers especially the slums with Ujariaon fire incident being third in a week. Earlier, fire resulted in huts at a slum in front of Bahukhandi Awas turning into ashes while another fire resulted in burn injuries to two and over a dozen cattle being reported charred to death at a fire that turned around a dozen huts into ashes at a village in Kakori police station area.
In total five incidents of fire were reported until Tuesday evening.
After a huge fire at Ujariaon in Gomti Nagar area in the morning, fire erupted at Gomti Hotel opposite SSP bungalow on Sapru Marg on Tuesday afternoon. The fire erupted at room No 503 of Gomti Hotel on the fifth floor. At the time of the incident, one Mr Mittal was in the room, Chief Fire Officer Abhaybhan Pandey said. No sooner than fire erupted, Mittal ran for protection. Two fire brigade vehicles were rushed to the spot which brought the fire under control after around 30 minutes.
No casualty has been reported. However, items kept in the room were destroyed in the fire.
Even as fire brigade officials were expressing sigh of relief, reports of a major fire at a scrap dealer’s shop on Campwell Road in Thakurganj began trickling in. The fire was so huge that four fire tenders were pressed into service. They were trying to extinguish the fire till the filing of the news.
