Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Lucknow Manzil Saini passed a directive on Saturday regarding leaves of policemen suspecting dengue infection.
In a shocking incident which puts a huge question mark on the situation of policing in Uttar Pradesh, a policeman in a heavily drunk state, started firing gunshots at two of his colleagues in Basti district late Thursday, injuring one of them severely.
According to information provided by Basti police, the incident happened in Rudhauli when two constables Kamlesh and Hari Kishore Tiwari – who are posted at the city’s Hanumanganj outpost, got into a heated argument over some issue while having dinner at a hotel, which is close to the outpost.
They both were heavily drunk and in a fit of rage Kamlesh fired a gunshot at Hari Kishore and injured him severely. On hearing the sound of a gunshot being fired, another policeman Rakesh, who was close to the hotel, rushed to rescue the injured cop. This was when Kameshwar fired at Rakesh and the bullet pierced into his hand, officials said.
Senior officials of the district police also reached the spot in no time after receiving information about the Rudauli incident. Both the injured policemen were rushed to a nearby hospital for first aid. Hari Kishore was later referred to Lucknow’s trauma centre for treatment as the gunshot had seriously wounded him. Sources say that Kamlesh has been taken into police custody, however, no official information about it has still been disclosed.
