Read how robbers strike at DFO’s Gomtinagar house, before fleeing with valuables

In a sensational incident that once again is sure to give political parties enough fodder to attack ruling SP government on law and order front months before UP goes to assembly poll, arms-wielding robbers struck at a divisional forest officer’s house, made family members hostage and fled with cash and jewellery worth lakhs of rupees in the wee hours of Saturday. The incident took place at Tony locality of Vijay Khand in Vibhuti Khand police station area of Gomtinagar.
What came as a shock that the robbers remained in the house of the DFO for two hours before fleeing with valuables. Since all the family members were tied in one room, the DFO Ashok Kumar Shukla, who is posted at Ambedkarnagar and resides at C 2-35, Vijay Khand, managed to free himself and then informed the police.
Senior police officials including SSP Manzil Saini along with crime branch sleuths and dog squad rushed to the spot and began investigation into the incident.
According to SP (crime) Dr Sanjay Kumar, the DFO, his wife Nisha, daughter Neha and son Prarth along with class IV Forest Department employee Hariram were fast asleep. While Nisha and Neha were on grond floor, Ashok and Prarth were sleeping on the first floor and Hariram was in the servant quarters.
At around 2am, around 7 to 9 miscreants with weapons in their hands jumped the wall and entered inside servant quarters, tied Hariram with clothes. After taking information about who was sleeping where, the miscreants then broke the main door and entered inside the house. The miscreants them made all the family members hostage on gunpoint and tied hands and feet of all the members.
The DFO and his family members even resisted the robbers’ attempt however in vain. The robbers then took jewellery worth Rs 3 to 4 lakh kept in the house and cash worth around Rs 25,000. Thereafter, the robbers locked the DFO in the basement, Nisha in bathroom, Prarth on the first floor and Hariram and Neha on ground floor. The robbers took mobile phones of the family members in their possession and fled the spot.
The DFO somehow freed himself and then freed other family members and informed the police on control room. Senior police officials including DIG RKS Rathore, SSP Manzil Saini, SP North Vijay Dhul, SP Crime Dr Sanjay Kumar and CO Satyasen Yadav rushed to the spot and began investigation into the incident. Efforts are on to catch the miscreants, Vibhuti Khand police said.
