In a tragic incident, a young couple and its 3-year-old son were crushed to death while two brothers sustained serious injuries when a medium-weight commercial vehicle ran over them while they were waiting for conveyance at Deputy Kheda in Para police station area on Sunday evening.
Enraged over the accident, delayed police response of about one hour, the locals stone-pelted the police party forcing the police to retaliate by cane charging the crowd.
According to circle officer Alambagh Rajesh Yadav, Deputy Kheda resident Arun Kashyap died late on Saturday night. His maternal uncle Ramkishore, a resident of Hardoi and his 35-year-old son Ashish and his wife Ranjana (30), their 3-year-old son and Ramkishore’s brother Radhey Shyam were waiting for conveyance to return back to Hardoi after attending the Kashyap’s cremation.
While they were waiting, a speeding medium weight commercial vehicle coming from Alambagh side ran over them leaving all the five seriously injured. The vehicle drive tried to flee with the vehicle however, chased him. Sensing trouble, the driver fled the spot leaving behind the vehicle. The passers-by rushed the five of them to Trauma Centre where Ashish, his wife and three-year-old son died while Ramkishore and Radhey Shyam are critical.
The police reached the spot after one hour of receiving the information enragig the locals. The crowd first pelted stones on the police party and later damaged the vehicle and even tried to set the vehicle on fire. The police party tried to pacify the locals, however, in vain. The police then used baton charge dispersing the crowd.
A heavy police force has been deployed in the area even though the crowd has dispersed after the lathi charge.
The police now have launched the manhunt to trace the driver of the vehicle.
