Read how WPL helps a woman get rid of a man constantly harassing her

A young woman was constantly being harassed by a man from Lucknow’s Hussainabad area. The man, who is a relative of the victim’s neighbour, acquired her number stealthily and started calling her and sending her lewd text messages from a mobile number which was not registered on his name or address. The woman on receiving calls from an unknown number and disturbing text messages reached out to Women Power Line (WPL) for help.
Registering the woman’s complaint, the WPL officials immediately launched an investigation into the case of sexual harassment and found out that the number from which the victim was receiving the calls and messages was issued on a fake ID and a fake address.
They warned the man, who is a Zadozi artisan and lives in Hussainabad, to stop harassing the woman by contacting him on the same number which he was using to send the objectionable text messages. The accused completely ignored the warnings by the WPL officials and continued his practise, police said.
The WPL officials, miffed by the stalker’s fearlessness for the rule of law, put his number on surveillance and traced down his location. The suspect was nabbed by the WPL team on Wednesday and was handed over to officials at the Thakurganj police station. After interrogation by the police, the man confessed to his crime and said that he had acquired the victim’s mobile number from his aunt’s house who is her neighbour.
