A widow of Madiyaon area, Lucknow committed suicide on Saturday night after dragging her 3 year
A married couple tried to kill itself after a fight between them on Saturday in the Itaunja town of Lucknow district. First, the woman doused herself in kerosene oil and set herself on fire, later the man, who is a farmer by profession, went to an orchard close to his house and hanged himself from a tree, killing himself then and there.
The woman sustained severe burn injuries during the suicide attempt and is still alive and undergoing treatment at a local hospital. According to information provided by SO Itaunja Mahendra Yadav, 42 year-old Jai Narayan Singh used to live with his family in Raipur Raja village in Itaunja. He had a fight with his 38 year-old wife Savitri Singh on Saturday morning.
The fight turned ugly and Savitri doused herself in kerosene oil with an intent to set herself ablaze. Somehow, the husband stopped his wife from lighting herself up. In the meantime, Jai Narayan’s family members also arrived at the spot and tried to convince him to not to fight with his wife.
Later, Savitri escaped from the scene and lit herself up. The family members rushed to her rescue and extinguished the fire. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors said that she had sustained 7o% to 80% burn injuries during her suicide attempt and is in a serious condition.
Jai Narayan, who was shocked by his wife taking the extreme step, went to a nearby orchard and hanged himself from a tree. His body was later found hanging from the tree by his family members. Local police was immediately informed and after arriving at the spot they sent the farmer’s body for post-mortem, SO Yadav said.
Savitri was later referred to Civil Hospital in Lucknow city and is undergoing treatment. The couple had three little children, who still don’t know what had happened to their mother and father.
