A resident doctor of the King George Medical University (KGMU) was arrested on Saturday after being charged of sexually exploiting a lady doctor, who works in a private hospital in Lucknow’s Chowk area.
The arrest was made following a complaint registered by the victim at the Chowk Police Station. The lady doctor, who hails from Kanpur, in her complaint to the police has accused KGMU’s Dr Naveen Kumar of sexually exploiting her under the pretext of marriage.
According to SP East Sarvesh Kumar Mishra, the accused, who lives in Lucknow’s Niralanagar area and is appointed at the medical university’s Pediatric Department, met the lady doctor some three months ago. The victim said that she and Dr Kumar first became friends and later got into a love affair.
The KGMU doctor also assured the complainant that he will marry her and got into a physical relationship with her, she further told the police. The relationship went normal for a while but soon turned ugly after Dr Kumar refused to marry the lady doctor and started exploiting her sexually.
The victim, who was already feeling heartbroken, pleaded the accused doctor to marry her but he started ignoring her calls and messages, SP Kumar said. The lady doctor, while trying to trace down Dr Kumar, also found out that her lover was already married, he added.
After knowing that she was being cheated upon by the KGMU doctor, the victim lodged a complaint against him on Friday at the Chowk police station and charged him of sexually exploiting her. She also provided the audio recordings of the conversations that took place between her and Dr Kumar over the phone to police officials.
SP Kumar has confirmed that the lady doctor has been sent for medical examination and the case is being investigated.
