In a sensational incident, a Dalit youth detained for interrogation with regards to a case of robbery, died in the police custody leading huge protest by the locals forcing the police to cane charge the crowd in Kanpur. The irked mob even pelted stones on the police party. SSP Shalabh Mathur sensing the seriousness of the incident suspended the outpost in charge and the staff at the outpost.
Mathur told media persons that Patelnagar resident Raju was brought to Ahirwa police outpost for interrogation in a matter of robbery. On Thursday morning, the family members received information that Raju has died.
Thereafter, locals gathered at the police outpost. On seeing the mob, the outpost in charge fled the spot. The mob began creating ruckus at the police outpost. On receiving the information, additional police forced was rushed to the outpost. However, enraged mob began pelting stone on the police party forcing the cops to use mild force. Family members of Raju alleged that the cops killed him. The outpost in charge and other staff have been suspended. A judicial inquiry has been ordered.
