A Kanwariya was crushed to death by a mini bus on Tuesday in a road accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi District. The killing of the Kanwariya man angered other members of the group with whom he was travelling.
The unruly mob blocked the road and destroyed many vehicles, including one of Superintendent of Police, Hardoi. Police had to use force to control the situation and disperse the protesting crowd.
According to the information provided by the district’s police, a group of Kanwariyas had gone to the Rajghat to collect water for jalabhishek. While returning from their holy journey, the group took a halt at Pihani’s Indira Ibrahimpur area to buy some puja items.
This was when the incident happened in which one of their fellow kanwariya – Krishna Pal – was crushed by a mini bus. 35 year old Pal died on the spot. Pal’s sudden death angered other group members who went rogue and started destroying other vehicles which were passing by. They also kept the road blocked for hours.
On receiving the information, SP Hardoi Umesh Singh, along with heavy police force, reached the place where the accident took place. The agitated kanwariyas started pelting stones at the police team and also attacked SP Singh’s vehicle, damaging its wind screen.
To control the unruly mob, police was left with no other choice but to use lathicharge to disperse them. Later, the police sent the deceased kanwariya’s body for a post-mortem and as a precautionary measure has deployed heavy force in the area.
