One again raising a serious question mark over the prevailing law and order situation in the state in general and state capital in particular, about half-a-dozen weapon-borne miscreants broke open the interlocked door at a house of retd railway engineer in South City locality of PGI police station area, beat up the old couple, tied them in a room and fled with cash and jewellery worth lakhs. They continued with the drama for around two hours, before leaving the house from the main entrance at 4 am.
This is second incident of major robbery in Lucknow in the past two weeks with the first being reported from Bakshi Ka Talab area only recently. The police had stated then the BKT robberies were the handiwork of kacchha-baniyan gang. The police have not been able to ascertain the identity of criminals involved in targeting old couple at their house in PGI area on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.
Gauging the seriousness of the crime, senior police officials including DGI RKS Rathore, SSP Rajesh Pandey, SP (north) VIjay Dhul, Circle Officer Harendra Yadav, forensic team and dog squad rushed to the spot and began investigation into the incident.
According to the DIG, Ramakant Lal, a retired railway engineer resides in South City locality of PGI police station area with his wife Indu, while his children live in Delhi. On Friday at around 1 am, around six robbers struck at their house. The miscreants broke open the interlock at the main gate of the house and entered inside. Since rest other doors were opened, the miscreants went straight inside the bedroom where the old couple was sleeping and caught hold of them.
The miscreants enquired about cash and jewellery from the old couple. However, when the old couple showed reluctance in revealing the whereabouts, the miscreants beat them up and tied them with saree and dumped them into a room. The miscreatns were hiding their faces with mask, the police said.
The miscreants then launched a search of each and ever almirah in each and every room one by one. After a two hour stay, they collected jewellery, cash and other valuables and snatched the jewellery being wore by Indu and fled the house from the main gate at around 4 am. The miscreants put a latch from outside on the main gate while fleeing the spot.
After the miscreants fled, the old couple, somehow managed to free themselves and began shouting for help from the courtyard side. On hearing the scream, neighbours rushed to their house, and informed the police control room about the incident.
The police rushed to the spot and began investigation into the incident. SP North told media persons that Ramakant has got injuries on his leg and hands while Indu has injuries on her face. The victim has not been able to calculate the exact loss, the SP north further said. The DIG (range) told media persons that teams have been formed to search for the robbers and expressed confidence that the miscreants would be caught soon.
