Main accused of burning the Sabarmati Express at Godhra railway station, Farooq Bhana has been arrested today by Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad. He was on the run for 14 years. Narendra Modi was then the chief minister of Gujarat.
On the morning of February 27 2002, 59 people died in a fire inside the Sabarmati Express train near Godhra railway station. The victims were mainly Hindu pilgrims returning from Ayodhya where they attended an event held by the VHP at the disputed Babri Masjid site.
The attack was followed by communal riots in Gujarat that killed nearly 1000 Muslims.
Now, the victim’s family members would now heave sigh of relief after the arrest of main conspirator.
