Political tension in Yadav clan of Samajwadi Party aggravated further on Thursday night when minutes of a five-minute meeting of senior SP leader Shivpal Yadav who is younger brother SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, with his nephew and chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, the former resigned from the government as well as from SP state president post.
However, unconfirmed reports stated that his resignation was later rejected by the party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav later in the night.
Earlier, on Thursday morning, Shivpal had said that every one in the party abides by what “Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav)” says and he too would follow his directives. He said that divesting him of significant portfolios was the prerogative of the chief minister. He would work dutifully in the interest of the Samajwadi Party and ensure party’s success in the election.
He had said that he would perform his duty as state president with sincerity.
Party general secretary Prof Ramgopal Yadav had hinted at party leader Amar Singh’s role behind family tension and said that he was least interested in the party welfare.
The family feud came out in open as Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav after sacking ministers Gayatri Prajapati and Rajkishore Singh removed Chief Secretary Deepak Singhal. This was followed by party supremo removing Akhilesh as state SP president and giving the charge to Shivpal.
What was being seen as retaliatory action, the Chief Minister divested Shivpal of major portfolios like PWD, Irrigation and Revenue and gave him less important social welfare ministry. However, everything seemed normal as SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, party general secretary Ramgopal Yadav and Shivpal Yadav landing in Lucknow on Thursday.
After a brief meeting of Shivpal with SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav at his Vikramaditya Marg residence, Shivpal went to 5 Kalidas Marg, the official residence of UP chief minister. Both held talks for around 5 minutes after which Shivpal came out and later resigned from Akhilesh cabinet and post of state SP chief.
However, Akhilesh has rejected the resignation till filing of the news.
