A victim of dowry harassment died after 10 days of critical condition in Trauma Centre but reportedly due to Samajwadi Party leader’s pressure the accused in-laws were released from Mahila Thana.
Govind, resident of Siddharth Nagar informed that her sister Reena was married to Brij Kishore in 2015 who lived in Maivaiyya, Alambagh area of Lucknow. Reena was oppressed by her in- laws for dowry. On September 5, she was beaten up ruthlessly by them for not bringing cash amount of Rs 1 lakh and an AC in dowry, they also tried to strangulate her. Reena became unconscious and the in-laws assuming her dead started crying and weeping. Somehow Reena was carried to trauma center by her brother, where she was found alive but critical, however the doctors started her treatment. When Reena’s family members reached Alambagh Police Station in hope of help, the police refused to cooperate. Later, they managed to register a case in Mahila Thana against Reena’s husband and in-laws and reported the matter to SSP on 13th Sep. On SSP’s order the police arrested the accused. Reportedly, after Samajwadi Party leader’s pressure the accused were released from the station after some time.
On September 15, Reena succumbed to death and after that women organisations came in protest of Reena’s in-laws demanding her husband’s arrest before her last rites. Ultimately, the increasing pressure forced the police to arrest Brij Kishore on September 15 only.
