Family feud in the Yadav clan of Samajwadi Party it seems is out in open. Minutes after Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav removed Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav as state party president and replaced him with his uncle Shivpal Yadav, the former took away all the prominent portfolios from the uncle and gave him Social Welfare Ministry.
Interestingly, the developments came a day after two ministers — controversial Gayatri Prajapati and Rajkishore Singh — were sacked by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav followed by removal of Chief Secretary Deepak Singhal on Tuesday. Sources said that Wednesday would also see high political drama with Shivpal Yadav likely to put in papers provided truce is not reached between uncle and nephew by Tuesday night itself.
Tension had been brewing in the family ever since Samajwadi Party ended up managing to win only 5 Lok Sabha seats from its earlier tally of 20 in 2009. Opposition had been making mockery of the Samajwadi Party government in the state by claiming that the state was being run by 3.5 to 4.5 CMs as other than Akhilesh, Mulayam, Shivpal, Azam and at times party general secretary Prof Ramgopal Yadav interfering in the government functioning.
However, post-Lok Sabha election, things within the family turned for worse with the feud in the Yadav clan coming out in open. Shivpal’s bid to ensure merger of Qaumi Ekta Dal in the Samajwadi Party became the latest trigger point between uncle and the nephew with later putting his foot down against the merger.
Akhilesh had been resisting party leaders bid to give entry to tainted leaders ever since the government was formed in the state. It was only after Mulayam intervened that both Akhilesh and Shivpal reached a truce and QED merger was put on hold.
With Akhilesh beginning to assert his influence in the party, rift only kept on widening. Amar Singh, who rejoined the SP after remaining out of the party for around six years, too began expressing displeasure with the functioning of the Chief Minister.
Not reluctant to budge any more, Akhilesh continued to assert his power and on Monday sacked controversial Minister of Mining Gayatri Prajapati and Animal Husbandary Minister Rajkishore Singh, who is believed to be close to Shivpal Yadav. Akhilesh didn’t stop here. On Tuesday, he removed Chief Secretary Deepak Singhal, who is also said to be close to Shivpal and Amar Singh. In fact his removal is also being attached to not only he attending a party thrown by Amar Singh but also flaunting the same while the CM skipped it.
However, hours after Singhal’s removal on Tuesday, SP general secretary Prof Ramgopal Yadav issued order removing Akhilesh Yadav as state SP chief and replacing him with Shivpal Yadav. What is being seen as retaliation by Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, Shivpal was stripped off all important PWD and Revenue Ministries and given not so important Social Welfare Ministry.
Interestingly, sources within the party said that if a truce was not reached in the Yadav clan in the night, Wednesday morning might see some more major political developments within the party. A source said it will not be surprising if Shivpal tenders his resignation from the ministry.
Adding to the suspense, Governor Ram Naik has given Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav appointment to meet him at 10 in the morning. Until keep on guessing, what’s cooking??
