‘Surgical strikes’ matter of pride and strategy!

A parliamentary panel on external affairs headed by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, was briefed by Foreign Secretary S Jaishankaran on Tuesday or surgical strikes.The Army carried out “limited-calibre, target-specific, counter-terrorist operations” across the Line of Control in the past too but this was the first time the government went public with the September 29 surgical strikes as part of a strategy. Defence Secretary G Mohan Kumar, Vice Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Bipin Rawat and Special Secretary (Internal Security) in the Ministry of Home Affairs M K Singla and BSF DG K K Sharma were among the present officials.
PM Narendra Modi also took pride in mentioning the army and surgical strike while addressing a rally in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi. The world took note of the army’s capability after last month’s “surgical strikes” on militant bases in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday, comparing the Indian military offensive to covert operations by the Israeli forces.
It is known worldwide that the military and secret service of Israel are considered to be among the best in the world and covert operations against militants in foreign territory – especially Palestine – are among their specializations.
“Our army’s valour is being discussed across the country these days. We used to hear earlier that Israel has done this. The nation has seen that Indian army is no less than anybody,” he said. Modi paid his respects to serving and retired soldiers, referring to the state as “Veer Bhumi” (land of the brave).
