UP Police arrests four men involved in attack on BJP leader Brijpal Tevatia

Four men, who are accused of being involved in the deadly attack on BJP leader Brijlal Tevatia in Muradnagar area of Ghaziabad district, were arrested by a police team, comprising officials of the Special Task Force (STF), UP, and Ghaziabad police. The police team also recovered two mobiles and a scooty, which were reportedly used during the attack on the BJP leader on August 11.

Officials further said that the few other accused in the case are still on the run and expressed hope that the specially formed police team tasked to investigate the deadly attack on Tevatia, will very soon trace them down and put them behind bars. It was also revealed by the officials that the motive behind the attack was revenge.
According to the information provided by the STF officials, the police team arrested the suspects named Nishant, Ram Kumar and Jitendra, who live in Ghaziabad, and Rahul Tyagi, who lives in Baghpat, late Tuesday in the Muradnagar area and from them recovered the two mobile phones and a scooty, which were used during the attack on Tevatia.
On being interrogated, the arrested men told the police that they carried out the attack to avenge the killing of a man named Suresh Deewan in Mehrauli village. They said that Tevatia was a suspect in Deewan’s murder, which took place in 1999, but was later given a clean chit by the police.

After the incident, Deewan’s two sons Manish and Vicky and his nephew Manoj started keeping a grudge against Tevatia and blamed him for their father’s and uncle’s death. The men kept planning for years on how to eliminate the BJP leader to avenge their father’s death, the arrested men said.

Before the attack on Tevatia which took place on August 11, Ram Kumar was sent to his house to keep a watch over his activities and movements. On August 10, Ram called Manish over the phone and told him that Tevatia had left his house in his car.
Immediately after getting the information, Manish, along with men named Nishant Bhadauria, Abhishek Gujjar, Manoj Chaudhry, Yogendra Thakur and Bittu Pehelwaan, went behind Tevatia’s car in a Fortuner SUV, which was used during the attack.

During the chase, they lost the victim’s track near Muradnagar and were unable to carry out their plans on August 10. Later on August 11, when Tevatia was returning home from a funeral procession the attackers got hold of him on Ravli road in the area and after stopping his vehicle fired many rounds of shots from an AK-47 rifle.

The BJP leader, along with men named Inderpal Pradhan, Rampal Yadav, Mohan, Vipin, Ashok and Mohmak Singh, sustained serious bullet injuries and are undergoing treatment at a hospital. The attackers fled the crime scene and later abandoned the Fortuner car with the weapons inside it in the district’s Modinagar area.
