Violence erupted as prisoners clashed with jail staff at Deoria district jail over some dispute on Tuesday. The violence resulted in severe injuries to a jail staff and minor injuries to prisoners and other staff members. Enraged prisoners even pelted stones on the police party that reached the spot to contain the violence.
The police had to use tear-gas shells and even opened fire in the air to control the situation. Though the situation has been brought under control, tension continues to grip the district jail.
According to administrative officials, violence erupted after a few prisoners had a dispute with the jail staff during the parade on Tuesday morning. The prisoners forced their entry into the barracks and attacked the jail staff.
Jail Superintendent Rang Bahaudur tried to calm down the situation but the prisoners made an attempt to beat him. He had to run away to save his life.
After receiving the information, the district administrative and police officials also rushed to the spot with heavy police force.
However, the prisoner began pelting stones on the police party forcing the police to retaliate by opening fire in the air. Heavy police force including PAC personnel were deployed to ward off any untoward incident.
